Why gilded path wellness?

The concept behind Gilded Path Wellness is inspired by the Japanese art of kintsugi.

Kintsugi is an art form that is known for showcasing brokenness. The artist utilizes lacquer mixed with precious metal such as gold, silver, or platinum to fill in the damaged cracks. Rather than trying to make the fragmented pieces seem unharmed or “back to normal”, the cracks are considered a new part of the art piece. After this process, the art piece is stronger and made more beautiful by embracing its imperfections.

This concept is why I chose the name “Gilded Path Wellness”.

When you’re working through trauma, you might want to forget and act as if nothing happened. You want to erase that part of your path- and rightfully so. However, trauma therapy asks us to not dismiss or “get over” our past- but rather work through it so it no longer affects our present. We need to see the cracks in our path and tend to them. By doing so, we are strengthening ourselves and walking onto the next steps of our path with power.

Ultimately, the mission of Gilded Path Wellness is to acknowledge our brokenness without judgement, tend to it, and continue to walk along our life path stronger; embracing ourselves fully.
